Grayville Scholarship
Application Deadline: April 1st of each year
Mission Statement
The goal of The Grayville Scholarship is to provide an annual $2,000 scholarship to a graduating Grayville High School senior pursuing vocational certification or a college/university degree. In the event of school consolidation, merger, or the tuitioning-out of high school students, this scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior residing within the original boundaries of the Grayville Community Unit School District #1.
History
Former Grayville High School industrial arts teacher and coach Troy Hickey was instrumental in establishing the Grayville Scholarship Trust Fund. Under his leadership and with a talented board of directors the Grayville Scholarship Trust Fund was founded.
Since 1987, the Grayville Scholarship Trust Fund (also known as the Grayville Scholarship) has awarded a two thousand dollar scholarship to a graduating senior at Grayville High School. This trust fund is completely financed by donations from corporations, individuals, fraternal organizations, and Grayville High School alumni and friends. With the untimely death of Scott Broster, in 1988, monetary memorials were funneled into this fund. In 2001, the alumni and friends of Grayville High School raised over twelve thousand dollars to continue this scholarship.
This two thousand dollar scholarship is paid directly to the trade school, college, or university of the recipient’s choice. This amount of money may be used over a period of four (4) years. To qualify for this scholarship, the Grayville High School student must rank in the upper half of the graduating class, have senior status, and legally reside within the boundaries of the Grayville Community Unit School District #1.
